On February 27, 2019, the Nye County School District Board listened to the public input from over a dozen Tonopah Community members with nearly 50 community members attending the board meeting to show their support. After 2 hours into the meeting and a great deal of deliberation, the board voted unanimously in favor of moving the middle school students to the high school and for all Tonopah Schools to operate on a 4 day week.

The ammendments to the proposals also call for estimates of cost to fix Silver Rim and exisiting schools in addition to the cost of what it would now take to build a new bulding. Also, the board required that school and district staff create a plan and begin preparing for both monumentous changes that will begin at the start of next school year, 2019-2020. Approximately by next year February, the board has required that Tonopah Schools provide an update of the 4 day week and its impact upon student achievement, absenteeism, and culture.

With these big changes, we have a lot of work to do at Tonopah Schools and it would not have been possible without the great community support. The community has been heard and we are moving forward.
